Sourcing standard

Every factual claim on this site belongs to one of three tiers, and anything that fits none of them does not go on the page.

Tier 1 — safety and processing claims

Cited by name and full URL, inline, next to the claim. Acceptable sources are the National Center for Home Food Preservation, the USDA Complete Guide to Home Canning, and named university extension services.

Tier 2 — product specifications

Manufacturer manuals and published spec sheets, cited with the model and the page we read. Capacity, diameter, material and pressure ratings come from here, never from memory and never from another publisher’s roundup. Where a manufacturer does not publish a figure, the row says so.

Tier 3 — live data

Prices and availability come only from the live price data layer and render with the date they were verified. A price older than 48 hours disappears rather than going stale.

Never citable

• Other affiliate roundups
• Recipe blogs, for processing times
• Social media video
• Anything remembered

Claims we do not make

• That we tested anything. We own no canners and run no test kitchen. Where we describe a product, we are describing published specifications and our own reasoning about them.
• Credentials we do not hold. No certifications, no expert panel, no medical review, no years served.
• Star ratings, scores or customer feedback counts. We publish none of these, and we emit no rating markup for search engines. We have no first-party evaluation of any product, so any such number would be invented.
• Prices from memory. A number appears only from the live layer, with its date. Otherwise the button reads “check price”.
• Customer quotes. There are none on this site, because we have no customers and therefore no real ones to publish.

Corrections

Errors are fixed in place with a dated correction note on the page, not edited away silently. If a correction changes a recommendation or a safety instruction, it is stated plainly at the point of the change.

To report an error, email info@lidandlarder.com or use the contact form. Please include the page and what you believe is wrong. We would much rather receive a correction than have a reader follow bad guidance.

How often we re-check this content

• Safety pages — every six months, against current NCHFP guidance, with the “last reviewed” date shown on the page.
• Processing times and altitude tables — every six months, or immediately on any NCHFP or USDA revision.
• Roundup picks — quarterly, for discontinued products and dead links.
• Specification tables — annually, or on a manufacturer model revision.
• Prices — continuously, automatically, from the live layer.

A recall or a change in safety guidance is an immediate off-cycle fix, not a queued one.

Commercial independence

We earn affiliate commissions, disclosed on every commercial page and in full on our affiliate disclosure. No advertiser, retailer or manufacturer has any input into what we recommend, what order it appears in, or what we tell you to skip. We accept no free products and no sponsored placements.

The structural check on this is that every roundup names something we would not buy, with the reason. Our full screening standard is on how we pick.

AI and content generation

Editorial judgment, product selection and every specification citation on this site are human-directed and human-reviewed against the sources linked on each page. Where a figure appears, a link to the publisher of that figure appears beside it, so any claim here can be checked independently rather than taken on trust.

Scope

This site covers home canning equipment and the safety rules that govern which equipment a food requires. It is not a recipe site, and it is not a food safety authority. For processes and processing times, use the NCHFP or your state extension service — and where our summary and their guidance differ, theirs is correct.
